According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, not to mention the good folks over at the Vitamin D3 Blog, from whom this site obtains much of its information, say the answer to this question is not fully available as of yet.

However, the Harvard study did show that those already suffering from Prostate Cancer experience a lesser degree of the severity of symptoms when their vitamin D levels are high. Granted, that's not exactly how it was worded in the scientific abstract, but that was the gist of what I took from reading through it.

To quote from the aforementioned website, the study conducted by Harvard scientists concluded that, "... Men with the expression of vitamin D receptors at high levels tend to have less severe prostate cancer."

In the article at the Vitamin D3 Blog entitled Vitamin D and Prostate Cancer, the author had this to say regarding the Harvard study:

"Patients who had high levels of vitamin D in their tumor tissue had lower levels of prostate specific antigen at diagnosis.  This leads to the thought that higher levels of the sunshine vitamin render the cancer less aggressive.

Doctors think it can lower death rates among cancer patients by attaching to cancerous cells and stopping the cell division process."

So while whether or not supplementing with Vitamin D can help PREVENT prostate cancer may not have yet been fully established, it has been shown to limit the severity, leading doctors and scientists to believe it can help to reduce death rates among those suffering from the disease.
