Everyone should take a daily vitamin D3 supplement, and the amount of the dose should be determined by each patient's doctor or clinician according to his or her individual need. This according to the Endocrine Society's most recent guidelines, which were published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism's June online edition.

Individual need is intended to be determined on a case-by-case basis by clinicians based on the patient's age and propensity for becoming vitamin D deficient.

The results of the research showed that vitamin D deficiency was excessively common in all age groups, but that each individual is different, hence the patient-specific guidelines.

Vitamin D deficiency has been shown to lead to more than two dozen diseases, and the condition can be prevented and/or reversed by daily D3 supplementation, as well as increased sunbathing and a healthy diet rich in vitamin D3-containing foods.
